Weight Loss & Nutrition
There is no single “best” way to lose weight for everyone. That's why we offer several programs — so you can choose the one that fits your personality and your lifestyle.

Why Weight Matters
Cancer, diabetes, heart disease, Alzheimer's, high blood pressure… the list is endless. Research has shown that certain hormones play a heavy role in maintaining our body weight. Leptin, made by our fat cells, works on the hypothalamus to release another hormone called MSH, which helps burn more calories during fasting, speed up metabolism and suppress hunger. When everything works properly, gaining abdominal fat raises leptin, which helps rein the weight back in.
Unfortunately, many of us consume far too many calories. Poor dietary choices, stress, environmental chemicals and lack of exercise upset this delicate balance, and the hypothalamus becomes resistant to leptin — blocking the body's own ability to regulate weight.
Even when people lose weight, many regain it because they were never taught how to live a healthy lifestyle. Cutting calories too far sends the thyroid into protection mode, slowing metabolism and setting the stage for regaining more than was lost — and it forces the body to preserve fat and break down muscle.

LifeCare Chiropractic Has an Answer
Every person has a different personality and a different lifestyle. Few things are as frustrating as not reaching the goals you set for your health.

PaleoCleanse Program
Probably our easiest program to implement, and it works well for families who eat dinner together. The Paleo program is 2 weeks long and involves supplements and drink mixes. The mixes are taken twice a day and the third meal is Paleo-based — for most patients, drinks for breakfast and lunch and a meal for dinner works best.
It's not a calorie-restricted diet: you can snack on approved options like almond butter and apples, or raw almonds. “Paleo” means unprocessed food — the caveman, obviously, did not eat Twinkies or French fries. Most patients find it easy to follow and quite enjoyable. A couple of pleasantries, like coffee and alcohol, should be avoided during the program.
The cost of this program is $160.

Ketogenic Diet Program
Once we got over our fascination with grains and society's fear of fats, it became clear that a diet higher in the right fats and protein and lower in carbs is most consistent with good health. Anyone can realistically start their own keto diet — it has been a powerful tool for seizure control for longer than seizure drugs have existed, and there are plenty of books and videos on it.
But if you need more guidance, this 6-week program is for you. You get a long list of meal options with plenty of variety. It requires a shift away from carb-heavy meals, and your whole family benefits from the healthier eating.
The kit includes “Diasnacks,” an amino acid mixture taken 4 times a day to curb appetite and keep blood-sugar hormones working well, a small kitchen scale to learn portion sizes, and urine keto dipsticks to confirm you're burning fat for fuel. It also includes a before-and-after Wico score to track your health beyond the scale.
This 6-week program costs $350 and includes an initial consultation in person or by phone or Skype.

Very Low Calorie Diet
This is the most aggressive of our programs and the one that requires the most commitment. Anyone who tells you a very low calorie diet (HCG or similar) “resets” your hypothalamus and metabolism is full of fecal matter. There is no such thing. If you finish and go back to eating the calories you ate before, you WILL regain all of the weight and more.
We only offer this program to patients who understand it is the beginning of the rest of their life with fewer calories. It uses a supplement designed to support a restricted-calorie diet so you lose fat and keep as much muscle as possible, supporting the interaction between leptin, the hypothalamus and MSH.

Weight Management
Weight management is one of the most complex medical topics. Here are some important things to remember.
Not all fats, carbohydrates and proteins are the same. Some dietary fats actually protect us against heart disease, diabetes, certain cancers and even obesity itself. “Bad” carbs contribute to most human diseases, while “good” carbs protect us against the very same maladies — and the same is true of proteins.
Hormones are the hidden factor. Leptin, insulin, cortisol, glucagon, estrogen and other hormones are major players in losing, gaining and maintaining weight, yet almost no weight-management programs address them, and even some physicians don't fully grasp the relationship.
Many diets are dangerous, even the popular ones. High-protein diets, over-the-counter diet pills and prescription diet pills can all be harmful, and very few help you stay at a healthy weight — they're written for weight loss, not weight maintenance.
The nutritional and lifestyle coaching you receive at LifeCare Chiropractic will help you maintain a healthy weight and prevent disease. We live fast-paced lives filled with fast food; we help you manage your diet, your exercise and your stress so you can enjoy life to its fullest.
Nutrition Counseling
You cannot be an active, vital, energetic person without good nutrition.
Dr. Bogash has dedicated himself to extensive research on how diet affects health, and nutritional counseling is a very important part of our care. The right nutritional plan can help not only diabetes and high blood pressure but rheumatoid arthritis, headaches and even muscle injuries. We collect your medical and family history to create personal guidelines, monitor your progress, adjust your plan as needed, and answer all your questions.
Conflicting news makes good information hard to find. Dr. Bogash reviews hundreds of peer-reviewed scientific articles each month, getting the information directly from the doctors and scientists who gathered it, and uses it to counsel patients. He has also created a list of vitamin supplements he believes are important for everyone.
As herbal remedies grow more popular, more dangerous interactions with prescription drugs are being found — a long list of herbs, including the popular ginkgo biloba, are dangerous with blood thinners. At your first appointment we review your medications, supplements and diet for potential problems, and always keep your history in mind when recommending vitamins and herbs.
Buying from a famous brand that advertises on TV — or even a hospital pharmacy — doesn't guarantee an effective product; many contain unnecessary binders, colors and flavorings. The supplements we offer come from companies like Metagenics and Biotics Research.
