Knee Pain and Knee Injury

Knee pain is a very frustrating ailment. It’s not always easy to diagnose the cause of knee pain, and once the cause is known, many patients mistakenly believe that no one can help them (in the case of arthritis) or that their only option is surgery (in the case a torn ligament or meniscus.)

In fact, chiropractic care can help you heal your knee and keep it pain-free, without surgery!

What Causes Knee Pain?

Your knee joint is surrounded by ligaments, tendons and muscles. Any injury to these soft tissues will cause pain in your knee. You can also feel pain in your knee if you have a dysfunction in your foot or hip.

We find that many patients receive dramatic relief from knee pain when we balance the muscles of the hip, support the foot with orthotics and perform soft-tissue manipulation around the knee. We are specialists in the use of the Graston technique to treat soft tissues. This therapy uses specially-designed tools to break down scar tissue that restricts your movements and interferes with proper joint alignment.

I have arthritis. Is there anything you can do for me?

You may be surprised to learn that arthritis does not always cause pain. Some patients with arthritis have no pain at all. If you have arthritis and you have knee pain, you should not simply assume that the two are related; you may have a problem with your soft tissues that needs to be treated.

If you have arthritis and knee pain, the Lifecare Chiropractic approach is to evaluate and care for all of the tissues surrounding your joint, suggest supplements that may reduce your arthritis symptoms, prescribe orthotics to improve the function of your feet and legs, and develop an exercise program that will preserve your mobility and may decrease your arthritis pain.

How do you help people with torn menisci?

We find that proper activity is very important to patients who are recovering from a torn meniscus. We can advise you about exercise and make sure that your knee is functioning properly so that your meniscus can heal.

I have chondromalacia patella. Can you help me?

Yes! CMP is strongly related to imbalances of the way the kneecap rides in its groove. By balancing your muscles, supporting your foot and keeping your soft tissues healthy, we can encourage your kneecap to ride correctly.

What can you do about bursitis?

Your bursa becomes inflamed when the muscles and fascia over it are too tight. We can use soft-tissue manipulation techniques to reduce the stress these tissues are placing on the bursa.
