US healthcare system too geared to acute medicine

This is another of those “how much money did we spend on THIS” stories. Did the US Institute of Medicine really need to spend the millions (my guess…) on this study? I guess we can’t believe something until we see it on paper in solid numbers. It would be nice is they just spent an afternoon asking patients if they thought the US was too focused on “crisis care” and sent the rest of the money down for alternative medicine research…
