Glucose Metabolism in Patients with Essential Hypertension

Wow!! A full 2/3 of patients in this study with high blood pressure had sugar handling problems. And I don’t EVER recall a patient coming in on blood pressure meds that was told about the link with insulin resistance and the increased risk for diabetes. Talk about missing the boat on treatment!!

Of course, this study was strongly supported by the pharmaceutical companies–what a great idea for cross marketing!! Find a patient with one problem that is on drugs for that problem, and link this to another condition that needs drugs! What more could you ask for?
