High Prevalence of Vitamin D insufficiency in Black and White Pregnant Women Residing in the Northern United States and Their Neonates
This is a large conference coming up that is sponsored by the NIH coming up in September of this year. It’s only taken several years for the government to realize we’ve got a massive problem.
This study found pregnant women in the Pittsburgh area had very high rates of too little Vit D in their blood. The problem was amplified in their neonates. Given how incredibly important Vit D is to just about everything, this presents a major public health problem.
Of course, the real problem here is that we have stuck our proverbial foot in our mouth with sunlight exposure, scaring everyone into wearing SPF 90 to walk to the car, producing very high rates of Vit D deficiencies in many populations. The bottom line is that our ancestors got heavy amounts of sunshine and our bodies were designed to deal with higher levels of Vit D in our blood.
