Unquestionably, breast milk is the first choice. Period. However, there are instances where breast feeding is just not possible. The issue here is that, no matter what type of formula you throw at a developing infant’s delicate GI tract, the chance for sensitivities to develop is increased. The use of enzymatically pre digested formulas have less intact proteins for the immune system around the GI tract to react to. While these formulas are more expensive, in many cases the future savings on meds and copays helps balance this out.
