Many smart people in the late 80’s and early 90’s predicted that the release of the new USDA food guide pyramid that recommended that fats and oils be used sparingly was going to lead to an increase in many chronic diseases. There’s no doubt they were right.
But just how powerful are healthy fats? This particular study was a rat study, so keep this in mind. In it, researchers used fish oils not to prevent liver damage, but to actually REVERSE it once it was present. Given that most meds actually damage the liver, this puts fish oils into a category without a pharmaceutical opponent.
Other natural compounds that are well known to protect the liver included alpha lipoic acid and milk thistle.
