The metabolic syndrome, or Syndrome X, is a state of insulin resistance that leads to a wide variety of other signs and symptoms in the patient. It is well known that insulin levels play a large role in heart disease, and this study adds further weight to this idea. Any patient with or at risk for heart disease needs to adopt a lifestyle that pays attention to lowering insulin resistance and improving sensitivity.
