Weight management is one of the most complex medical topics. Calorie monitoring (how many in, how many out) is the most famous weight management subject, but the subject is much more complex than that. Here are some important things to remember:
Don’t be fooled into thinking that all fats are bad. Some dietary fats actually protect us against heart disease, diabetes, certain cancers and even against obesity itself.
Not all carbohydrates are equal. While some carbs - the "bad" ones -- contribute to most human diseases, including cancer, "good" carbs protect us against the very same maladies!
There are also "good" and "bad" proteins. As with carbohydrates, the "bad" ones promote disease, and the "good" ones protect us against it.
Hormones play a very important role in weight management. Leptin, insulin, cortisol, glucagon, estrogen and other hormones are major players in the field of losing, gaining and maintaining weight. Despite this, almost no weight-management programs address the action of hormones on our bodies. Even some physicians do not fully grasp the complexity of the relationship between hormonal regulation and weight management.
High protein diets, over-the-counter diet pills and prescription diet pills can all be harmful to your body. What is more, very few of these diets and pills will help you to stay at a healthy weight. They are written for weight loss, not weight maintanence.
The nutritional and lifestyle coaching that you receive at Lifecare Chiropractic will help you to maintain a healthy weight and prevent diseases. Our country is fast-paced, and filled with fast food! We help you to manage your diet, your exercise and your stress so that you can enjoy your life to its fullest.
