Low Back Pain

Don't suffer any more low back pain--get your life back!!

For a variety of reasons, low back pain (LBP) is very common in today's society.  It is estimated that upwards of 80% of the population will experience low back pain at some point in their lives.  Some of these cases will resolve on their own.  Some will not. So why is low back pain so common?  We live in a sedentary society without enough exercise, with prolonged time spent sitting in a car seat or in front of a computer and our flexibility is not what it should be.  But it doesn't have to be that way.

So what causes low back pain?

There are quite a few "pain generators" in the low back region.  Ligaments, muscles, tendons, bones, disc, joints, nerves....  The list is quite long.  Quite frankly, most patients with low back pain likely have multiple problems.  That means that the approach has to address all of them.  Manipulation, soft tissue work, exercises, modifying postures, ergonomic evaluation of home and office, stretching--these ALL have to be addressed for a comprehensive approach to your low back pain.  Anything that doesn't take into account all of these factors is not complete.

What about pain in my leg?

This is never an easy question.  Pain into the leg can also come from a variety of sources.  NOT ALL PAIN IN THE LEG IS SCIATIC PAIN!!   We can't stress this enough.  There are many patients who undergo long treatments or even surgery focused on the low back when the real problem is in their hips!!  The reality is that differentiating between leg pain coming from the back and leg pain coming from the hip can be difficult because they can present with almost identical patterns.  Unless treatment is focused on both regions, you may not be getting the comprehensive treatment you need for your low back pain.

So how is treatment at Lifecare Chiropractic different?

At Lifecare Chiropractic, we take a comprehensive approach.  This means soft tissue techniques like stretching, Graston technique, massage and neuromuscular re-education.  Then we add manipulation based on its proven track record for care of low back pain.  Flexion Distraction decompression adjusting is a specialized technique that requires a specialized table to significant reduce pain from disc injuries leading to sciatic / leg pain.  Looking at irritating factors that occur outside of the office is important as well, evaluating posture, foot imbalances, workplace setup and many other factors that contribute to low back pain.
