The muscles that work to move the fingers attach at one end to the epicondyle of the elbow and the other end to the fingers and wrist. Overwork these muscles and they become tight, leading to several problems. At one end of the arm, the joints of the wrist become compressed, reducing motion and increasing chance for inflammation. The tendons running through the carpal tunnel become inflamed, compressing the relatively soft median nerve and creating the symptoms associated with carpal tunnel.

Typical therapy involves stretching and strengthening. However, this does not truly address the factors that created the problem in the first place--they just compensate. Truly addressing this condition requires that problems in the muscles that line BOTH sides of the forearm (trigger points, scar tissue, fascial restrictions) be treated with appropriate soft tissue techniques.
